Rethink traditional cleaning with Lysol's new concept of Healthing

LYSOL is introducing the concept of Healthing – a new idea centered on keeping families as healthy as possible, by looking beyond just cleaning and ensuring that the proper steps are taken to stay well.

LYSOL believes it's the little things that we do every day – particularly our hygiene and cleaning habits – truly can make an impact on our health. This is especially important on the heels of one of the worst cold and flu seasons in a decade. So, this season, do more than Spring Cleaning.

Let’s practice Spring “Healthing.”
o This new season should be more about adopting a healthier overall lifestyle instead
of just merely cleaning out your closet.
o It’s not just about having a clean home, but a healthy home.

It is very important to my family to stay well. No one likes to be sick but since I have a 6 month old baby the consequences of her getting sick can be much worse that myself,  my husband or 5 year old son.  In order to stay healthy we wash our hands several times a day.  In the kitchen and bathrooms, I use Lysol Disinfectant wipes to kill germs.  I also use the Disinfectant wipes to wipe down all the door knobs and kids toys once a monthWhen we are out we use hand sanitizer to kill germsIf one of us does happen to get sick I spray LYSOL Disinfectant Spray around the house to try and prevent the rest of us from catching it

LYSOL’s tips on ways to incorporate Healthing into your cleaning routine

1. Don’t let spring cleaning overwhelm you - take it one room at a time and stock up on
products that will help you to get the job done effectively, including LYSOL® products,
paper towels, sponges, and trash bags.

2. Know the difference between cleaning and disinfecting! Both are important components
of the Healthing process and LYSOL® has products that can help with all related tasks.
While cleaning and organizing is certainly important, killing germs on commonly
touched surfaces can lower the risk of spreading bacteria and viruses between members
of the family.

3. Start with the basics – wipe down easy to reach surfaces and then move onto the little
nooks and crannies.

4. Remember to dust around wall art, photographs and woodwork.

5. Use a disinfectant product, like LYSOL® Disinfecting Wipes, to help ensure you’re
killing germs as you clean, and think beyond the usual places. Be sure to clean even the
smallest surfaces, such as light switches.

6. Don’t forget to disinfect places that you don’t see or think about often, like the door
knobs, cabinet handles or sink drains.

7. Make it a family activity and tailor tasks to specific age groups. Give younger children
simpler, one-step tasks like dusting or picking toys up off the floor, and save the more
complex jobs, such as vacuuming, scrubbing, and disinfecting for older members of the
family.

8. Remember to practice proper hand washing as well after you clean, either with soap
and water for 20 seconds or a hand sanitizer. Hand washing is the single most important
thing you can do to prevent illness, according to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC).

These are some excellent tips. With a 2,200sq foot home, cleaning can feel overwhelming so I really like the idea to take one room at a time so I don't get overwhelmed. I always disinfected our door knobs but never thought of the light switches or cabinet handles. I also think its a fantastic idea to include my 5 year old son. He can take a Lysol wipe and wipe down the counters and other reachable areas. I can't wait to implement the above tips.

Did you know LYSOL and television personality Giuliana Rancic have partnered together to visit YMCAs in select markets across the country to demonstrate Healthing in action. At each YMCA location, LYSOL will provide attendees with hands-on education about the products and steps required to practice improved hygiene habits in their own home, while making the idea fun and relatable to kids. LYSOL will also provide educational information and disinfecting products to the local YMCAs, along with the donation of a one-year membership to a deserving family.
